Hilton HHonors’ Teacher Treks Wants to Send You on an Adventure

Some would say that the very act of teaching is an “adventure” already.

Whether analyzing a historic work of art or telling a riveting account of an ancient civilization, teachers are the ultimate conduits to cultural enlightenment.  But how much better would your lesson be if you could recount first-hand experience to your students?

Hilton Worldwide has long believed in the power of travel to bring people together and foster greater understanding between countries.  As nuturers of future generations of travelers, teachers play an important role in spreading tolerance and understaning of other cultures and can have a profound impact on their students’ lives.  With this in mind, Hilton HHonors, the loyalty program of Hilton Worldwide, is giving teachers a passport to see the world and bring their experiences back to the classroom through the Teacher Treks Travel Grant Competition.

Teachers are invited to submit an essay stating where they would like to visit, what they want to see and how their experiences will be translated into lessons for their classroom.  30 finalists will be selected from entries submitted by March 15th.  From there an expert panel along with public votes will decide the 15 winners who will receive the trip of a lifetime to experience the cultural destination of their choice.

So if you’re a teacher who’s always dreamed of adventure travel, here’s your chance to experience it.  Visit www.hhonors.com/TeacherTreks or the HHonors Facebook page for full details and to enter by March 15th.  Good luck!

Hilton HHonors launched Teacher Treks  at the NBCUniversal Golden Globes Awards After Party.  Celebrities like Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Murray, Sacha Baron Cohen and Jason Isaacs signed an illuminated chalkboard of the world map specially created for the program.  It’s now on display in our lobby so you can get an up close look at this amazing exhibit.

Based on a recent survey*, nearly all teachers believe travel provides cultural education that can’t be fully taught in a classroom (93%) yet nearly half of U.S. teachers travel less than once or twice a year (*Hilton HHonors survey of 1,000+ U.S. teachers grades K-12).  So when you have the opportunity to travel, keep in mind these tips from Perea Blackmon, 2012 District of Columbia Teacher of the Year, to get the most out of your journey.
