The 56th annual Grammy Awards is usually a star studded night filled with amazing music from a variety of talented singers and musicians, and recording acts, and this year included weddings. Hilton Hotel & Resorts has been a long time sponsor of the Grammys, and this year’s ceremonies has special meaning to Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City hotel. Robyn Monks, one of our Lobby Lounge bartenders, was among the couples who said, “I Do.” Robyn and Adam Gropman, expecting their first child in April, heard about this opportunity in November 2013, and jumped at the chance to say their nuptials on national television. Robyn, a recording artist herself as half of the country duo Shaker Sisters, said one day she would be at the Grammy Awards but this was not what she had in mind in her wildest dreams.
The Grammy organization (The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) was looking for interesting and diverse couples to exchange their vows on the show, and only thirty couples were chosen. Robyn and Adam were thrilled to be among them. “They kept the details secret until the night before the event. A 30 second wedding is really the best,” said Robyn. “It was an emotional event for all of participants as well as the onlookers. I walked by Keith Urban and he was in tears. It is emotional enough to be married for the first time, but to add the millions of TV viewers around the world made it quite the night to remember”.
Following the awards show, all the newly married couples were invited to the after party where Boyz 2 Men and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy played the night away. Robyn and Adam were overwhelmed by all the attention and congratulations from the popular artists and celebrities in attendance. “I felt like a celebrity all evening. So many a people came up to hug and congratulate us,“ said Robyn with a big smile.
We congratulate Robyn and Adam on their marriage and the new addition that will soon grace their lives.
When Camp Pendleton Marine, Ryan Fosner, called to ask if the Hilton would help him arrange the most important moment of his life, the answer was easy. Making memories and creating special moments is what the hospitality industry is all about, and the team was happy to be a part of this significant event.
On break from his military duties, Ryan had decided that March 29, 2013 was the day he would ask his three year girlfriend, Jessica, to be his wife. When he phoned the hotel he explained that he wanted Universal City to be the backdrop to his proposal. “Universal City is so special to the both of us because this is the first place we went together,” explains Ryan. “It was where I told her I loved her for the first time… and the first time she said it back.”
Ryan and Jessica have known each other since High School in Texas. However, it wasn’t until just over three years ago that they started dating. It was just after graduating and around the same time he joined the Marines, which meant spending time together was difficult. “I was constantly away in California training in the infantry while she was working back in Texas, but we always seemed to make things work due to how great the short times together were. Making lasting memories throughout, we grew closer together while developing special places in our hearts for the locations we visited.”
The Hilton was among the greatest of these. “Looking out of the window of the Hilton down to all the spectacular lights was the first time I told her I was falling for her, so it was only fitting that I should propose on the rooftop with a similar view.“ It was an elaborate and detailed plan that the hotel staff could not help but be a part of. Starting with a note in a bottle waiting on the bed for Jessica, the journey continued with consecutive notes that lead her to their special places – where they stayed while their relationship was long distance; the ice cream stand that was their first date; the burger joint by their first apartment; and finally the place they said I love you. Once she drove up to LA and arrived at the hotel, she was directed to the rooftop of the Hilton, and he proposed.
Every memory is held dear, but sometimes the moments created are just magical. That was this moment and the couple and the team at Hilton Universal City will remember it for a long time to come.
Congratulations on your engagement! Now it’s time to have some fun planning your wedding!

Spring may be “wedding season,” but that doesn’t mean your wedding can’t be unique. Spring weddings are absolutely beautiful. Think soft pastels, blooming buds outside and breezy weather that hits the spot after being stuck inside for winter. Spring is great for outdoor weddings, a variety of flowers are in season and the outdoors will offer natural inspiration for your wedding.
Spring is understandably one of the most popular seasons to get married in. The weather is not too hot and not too cold, there’s an array of delightful flowers in bloom and fantastic yummy seasonal food to include in your menu. What Spring does also bring is changeable weather. It is important for you to be prepared. Arrange that both the head bridesmaid and the best man have any weather eventuality covered to get you to the wedding looking fresh and dry. It is also important to keep your guests in the know about the weather leading up to the ‘big day’. Keep an eye on the forecast and contact your guests with information as soon as you have it.
Well if there’s any season to indulge then Spring is it! For many Spring is the time of Easter celebration after a long Lent fast, so a spring wedding cake must be a real treat on the senses. The overall look could match your colour scheme or you could just choose bright spring coloured icing. Alternatively, choose a beautifully patterned white fondant and make it come alive with cascading fresh flowers; delicious in every sense of the word. When it comes to taste you might want a very naughty-but-nice chocolate sponge filled with fresh strawberry puree filling. Otherwise choose a lighter lemon cake with blackberry infused cream filling.
There’s so much fantastic fresh food to include on your wedding menu so be inspired by your tastes and come up with a mouthwatering combination. Why not serve perfectly seasoned lamb with garden vegetables and opt for a traditional yet sophisticated take on jelly and ice cream. You’ll want to keep everyone refreshed and what better way than to offer a selection of cocktails. Why not start the celebrations with traditional champagne with fresh strawberries or light gin punch garnished with mint. Later in the evening you could offer a choice of cocktails that compliment your food.
Spring is awash with colorful flowers. Take your pick from Daffodils, Hyacinths, Lilacs, Narcissi, Peonies, Stargazer Lillies, Sweet peas, and Tulips. If you’re looking for imaginative table arrangement ask your florist about including your favorite springtime fruits for an interesting twist to your day.
Champagne color dresses are popular for Spring weddings as well as vintage dresses from a bygone era.Why not see what your mother or grandmother has saved in her wardrobe. When putting together your look consider a bolero or chiffon stole in case the weather turns cold. Add Spring color to your look by choosing bright bridesmaid dresses.
