The stage was set, every glass sparkled, and the red carpet rolled out as our Sierra Ballroom had the distinguished honor to welcome the who’s who in Daytime television at the 42nd Daytime Creative Arts Emmy® Awards hosted by Florence Henderson and Alex Trebek. As each nominee took their place on the Red Carpet, they were welcomed with interviews and photographers trying to snap the perfect shot. Once they reached the end, they were escorted into our Sierra Ballroom where an evening of reception and awards awaited.

In addition to the evening’s famous hosts, an illustrious group of presenters for the evenings awards included Darin Brooks and Lawrence Saint-Victor of “The Bold & the Beautiful” (CBS), Laura Wright and Chad Duell of “General Hospital” (ABC), Hunter King and Lachlan Buchanan of “The Young & the Restless” (CBS), Casey Moss and Jen Lilley of “Days of Our Lives” (NBC), Judge Marilyn Milian of “The People’s Court” (Syndicated), John Tesh of “Intelligence for Your Life” (Syndicated) along with many others all gathering to honor those that work tirelessly behind the scenes to make our favorite daytime line-up happen each day.

The attendees reception started with white glove butler passed appetizers which included; Beef Carpaccio Canapes, Balsamic Stuffed Mushroom Caps, Miniature Fried Wanton Cups and Ahi Poke. Once the awards began, attendees dined on a three course dinner created by our Executive Chef, George Sit. The champagne flowed as the awards were given to each lucky recipient.

Lifetime Achievement for Craft was the final evening’s award going to Producer/Director Michael Gargiulo. Mr. Gargiulo is known for producing iconic shows like “Password,” “Match Game,” “I’ve Got a Secret,” “To Tell the Truth,” “The Price is Right,” and directing  “Jackpot” on NBC, and later, the “$10,000 Pyramid.” It was a great evening for Daytime television and a shining event for Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City Hotel.

Celebrate The Moon Festival 2014

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as The Moon Festival is a popular harvest festival dating back over 3,000 years. The Moon Festival is one of the most important holidays in the Chinese Calendar.

The festival is full of legendary stories. Legend says Yi (or Houyi) was very good at archery. There were once ten suns in the sky, which made plants wither, and fierce beasts run wild to imperil people. It was too hot to live under the suns. To save the people, Yi started to shoot the suns. He shot down nine of them one by one, and he might have shot the last one if it was not called off by others. Thus the severe drought was gone. He also got rid of those fierce animals for the people.

It is said Yi’s wife was Chang’e, a legendary lady in the famous story, “Chang’e flying to the moon.” Chang’e swallowed the elixir stolen from her husband, and she flew to the moon and became the goddess of the moon, who has lived in the palace on the moon ever since. You may see Chang’e dancing on the moon during the festival.

The Moon festival is also an occasion for family reunions. When the full moon rises, families get together to watch the full moon, eat moon cakes, and sing moon poems.
