February is Black History Month

Since 1976, Black History has been observed in the month of February. This celebration is to  honor the achievements by African Americans in U.S. history. So join in on this months festivities and culture with the following event in LA.

NoHo Gallery LA’s “Black History Month” exhibit

NoHo Gallery LA ‘s Black History Month Art Show presents artists who portray the history, the current state of affairs and the future direction of Black & Afro-American Art. This show begins on February 4th and runs thur the end of the month.

20th Annual Pan African Film Festival

Since 1992, this non-profit organization has promoted culture and tolerance through film, art and creative expression. Enjoy over 130 films, the largest fine art show of prominent black artists, and fine crafts during this celebration. Beginning February 9 – 20th with various citywide locations.

“Breaking the Chains to Create Change”

California State University, Northridge host their annual Black History Month celebration. Highlights during the month include an address at 12 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, by author and political commentator Anthony Asadullah Samad, a political science and African-American Studies professor at East Los Angeles College.

California African American Museum

The California African American Museum (CAAM) exists to research, collect, preserve and interpret for public enrichment, the history, art and culture of African Americans. Join them in celebrating all month long with various activities, exhibits, and lectures.
